THESE ARE THE BOOKS BY KARL LOUIS GUILLEN THAT ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

THE BEGINNING OF AN ADVENTURE

V
ery few prisoners know how to write, and fewer still know how to reach inside and pull out novel-length manuscripts, which describe for us in detail the solitary existence endured by too many fellow human beings. We are not often privy to the desperation, the examination of dark and sad emotions, where reality is distorted, where the system itself feeds on these compelled emotions. We don't see the tortures - physical and psychological - and brutalizations, nor do we hear about the innocent being sent to prison never to return untainted. Karl Guillen might be one of a handful of prisoners who are able to elucidate and entertain, while illuminating and investigating, without the stigmatism of his gray cement walls infecting his humanity.
In his fiction, poetry, and even in some of his artwork, you may find yourself in a state of connective realization, a deja vu feeling. You may find tears, or fears. You may be turned-on and entertained. This is Karl's talent, and like many great unknown writers, we hope you will investigate, enjoy, be touched, and pass it on.

From THE GRINDER "My fingers are an extension of my brain, not just like any other human being. They type almost as fast as I think (Ah, this is why the ladies love me to play...). They keep up with the thoughts, and storylines that flow through my head in ceaseless streams. With pen or pencil, I lose track in the middle of a sentence because I am thinking of the next sentence".

When we initially set-up this website, in the May ' 99, in support of the Committee, Karl had just sent his autobiography,
THE GRINDER (Il Tritacarne in Italian), and was waiting for a trial and possible death penalty. He was one many of us who fight with the only thing we have: pen and paper.
So let's sum up how the Committee laid hold of Karl's first manuscript, THE GRINDER/IL TRITACARNE.
Karl had an Italian pen pal who had sent the manuscript to, managing to dodge the prison censors. But there was a price; some prison guards broke his hands, and they took his typewriter away for a year. The quality of the manuscript was immediately noticed, and soon found support and reached Multimage, a humanist publisher who decided to have it translated into Italian and published. Since then it has been a literary, and human adventure, which has brought Karl's tragic story to a still growing number of people around the world. A Committee was founded to help Karl raise money for his legal defense, to fight against the death penalty and other injustices and human rights violations. The Committee's influence and proximity to Karl also helped him to be free of the death penalty, and his example will be of use in fighting for the humane treatment of human beings around the world. A wider campaign against the death penalty has begun. By clicking here you can read the presentation of this painful, yet enthralling manuscript, and here you can find some excerpts and some comments by the translator Fiamma Lolli. For those who have already enjoyed THE GRINDER/IL TRITACARNE, you will be happy to know that the editor/translator has just received part two, UNBECOMING, the continuing adventure. It may seem odd to call a tragic story an adventure, but it is not improper, because actually it is, even though it is born from within a awful reality that has compressed thoughts and words into a purer form.

The second work published by Multimage is Five Things (Cinque Cose in Italian), a two volume set of poetry printed in ENGLISH/ITALIAN (the text is upon opposing pages). Click on the title to see ITS COVER, read the preface, and some of the more moving poems. Already, My Poem, from Five Things, was picked by the International Library of Poetry and placed into their three album collection on Cd and cassette called The Sound of Poetry that you can order here. Yet we remind you that no money will go to Karl from its sale.

ORDER INFO is on the Contacts page, and has all specific information about how to order K.L.Guillen's books, and how to make payments, donations, and even how to write the author directly.

And now we suggest Karl's newest books THE GRINDER and BETRAYAL OF INNOCENCE, published in ENGLISH at the Xlibris Corporation, be read to begin the adventure with hundreds of others. Click on the titles and go into the publisher's promo web pages. Even if you've read Il Tritacarne, in Italian, but understand English, we highly recommend reading THE GRINDER because it is a pure and free text unaffected by the lingual transference from English to Italian. BETRAYAL OF INNOCENCE is an enthralling novel, centered upon a prison that literally sits within our peripheral vision, on the verge of being outlawed, yet somehow managing to exist. And those within it, Brock McCool, Jody, Negro, Mouse, The Shark, and others caught within this vortex of sex, violence, and vindication, must fight to see the next day. To date, this is one of K.L.Guillen's best works on prison. Here you'll find our presentation and some compelling excerpts from the original text. You may order them at www.xlibris.com/bookstore, or by e-mailing to:orders@xlibris.com

Sadly, the haves and havenots, the rich and the poor, those who have money and those who don't have money, still determine what kind of justice, if any, a person gets. In saying, the inmate Karl Louis Guillen, is still fighting for his innocence, is working, writing, being productive, being part of humanity though we have excluded him to a certain degree, and needs our financial help. Whether donating, buying his books, or lending services, it all goes towards getting him out of the box they keep him in, where they try to break him, where they try to turn him into something UNBECOMING a human being...

THANKS!
