This
is the cover of IL TRITACARNE (Italian Translation), or THE GRINDER (English
Edition), which compelled us to commence our campaign against the death penalty
and the violation of human rights. The cover of Il tritacarne is simple, yet
striking when you realize it features on the front a blank execution warrant
(see the picture at the foot of the page). It's as icy and
sadistic as
the slow and hypocrital rituals, as the bureaucratic
machinery begins to organize the death of a human being. Even to the last days,
and the
final execution.
Karl no longer faces the death
penalty in Arizona's "Death House", where cyanide gas or poisonous
slime flows. Instead he faces death by suffocation within solitary confinement,
at SMU II in Florence, Arizona. His innocence is of no importance to the administration,
in a bureaucracy
where only money, power, or fame speak for justice denied. Karl
will be released in 2013 if he survives the 24 hour lockdown, if his mind survives
the psychogical torture, the SMU II "Lockdown Diet", and other tortures
inherent within these human warehouses.
Karl is innocent, which was why he took his cases to trial, only to find out
too late that guilt and innocence do no matter within the system. After 4 years
in Arizona's prisons Karl learned enough about the law to begin fighting his
cases. However, as in most cases, the U.S. Courts do not look at 2jailhouse
lawyer" petitions, because to support the system, those involved must not
recognize actual innocence, the inherent arbitrary and capricious treatment
meted out to the human beings who have fallen prey to "the grinder",
or the American system of justice.
This
book is excellent in its own right, if not for the fact that the prison administration
broke Karl's hands after he'd written it, or the repeated destruction of the
manuscript (that Karl stubbornly re-wrote, even after they seized his type-writer
under false pretenses and lies). Today Karl cannot write by hand for long periods,
not only because of the pain, but also because he loses control of the legibility.
Multimage published IL TRITACARNE to assist Karl in raising money to hire a
proper attorney, but to also spread the word of a tragically flawed, corrupted,
and maligned judicial system that exists in the heart of the United States,
the loudest country in the world, in terms of human and civil rights and democracy.
By clicking here you can read some excerpts
and the wonderful poem closing the book.
We of the Committee, members of the Humanist Movement, feel the duty to show Karl's case as an example also for other inmates in USA, and in the world; we feel the duty to fight for the abolition of the death penalty, for the respect of the human rights, and for the establishment of right defense rules for every inmate, indipendently from one's crime.

We also set up a varied distribution network (e.g: the ever-effective "pass
the word", or the promotion through stands during various events) which
is an integral part of the campaign for Karl, and the key point to sell his
books, thus widening the chance to ensure him a proper defense. We would be
grateful for any help you will send us to widen this network.
Please contact us!!
But since even the brightest expectation of sale won't
be enough to cover Karl's legal fees, we ask you to send a donation, even small,
on the giro account we opened just for his cause:
Giro account No15964349
ASSOCIAZIONE MULTIMAGE

Or sending cash in registered letter,

We invite you all, from the single to the organizations, media, institutions,
to join our Committee promoting this campaign. Any kind of help is appreciated:
a small donation, one poster attached, the "pass the word" about Karl's
books, to take part in our events, and whatever you can suggest.
To assist you to take part in our campaign we set a series of items
to enable you to promote his
writings, and create a human chain of help and information about his case, and
about the prison situation in USA and in the world.
To join us, suggestions, and further
info, please write to Olivier Turquet,
Multimage editorial manager.
You can even write to Karl directly, this is an important way to help him as
well. You can also send him pictures or recorded tapes (with no music!). Be
careful to write his address as right as it's below, or you mail will come back.
